Neon Energy Prepares To Drill Paloma Deep-2 Well In San Joaquin
Dear Colleague,
With recent news of Oxy, Underground Energy, Zodiac Exploration, Solimar Energy and Neon Energy are continuing their drilling programs and looking at the Monterey and Kreyenhagen shales as well as the Temblor and Avenal sandstones in the Golden State, interest in California's oil potential has never been more intense.

Latest news stories include those from Hess who recently received permits to drill up to 6 wells, believed to be targeting the Kreyenhagen. Solimar Energy have had their Kreyenhagen prospect independently assessed with encouraging findings that match the company's own well data – both promising huge potential from the shale. The fact that more and more operators every month are exploring their acreage with leasing and drilling spreading in Fresno and Kings counties on either side of Kettleman Dome fields, is another major indicator that something special is happening in this area.

The most exciting news however, is that Neon Energy is preparing to drill it's Paloma Deep-2 well in the San Joaquin, ahead of schedule, after unstimulated recovery of oil from the Monterey produced from their Paloma Deep-1 well. Matching similar results from a number of productive Monterey fields, these findings continue the huge optimism about the recovery potential of California's oil shales and surrounding sediments. The company will now investigate how unconventional stimulation techniques and horizontal drilling can maximize oil recovery from the shale.

Don Nelson, VP Exploration, Neon Energy is coming to Bakersfield on May 30-31 to lead Tight Oil Reservoirs California 2012 by chairing the event; facilitating the discussions throughout the two days.

We are also delighted to welcome a new speaker to our line up in Ken Peters, Consulting Professor - Geological & Environmental Sciences, Stanford University, who will be speaking on a fascinating study on the chemometric differentiation of the crude oil families present in the San Joaquin Basin and how identified families can be used to predict physical properties of oil in different compartments within the same field.

Bruce Berwager, COO, Underground Energy has joined our technology panel where the latest technology that could be used to maximize production from Californian shales will be debated, and Cathy Reheis-Boyd, President of the Western States Petroleum Association will be giving an opening address providing a history and current analysis of production data in the State and the bright future ahead.

Californian operators will now join Mr Nelson, Mr Clarke, Mr Berwager and Ms. Boyd to share geological findings and insights on the latest techniques and strategies being used to exploit and develop the most prolific oil reserves in North America. The event is fully expected to sell out: book now to guarantee your place!
