Training certificate fraud

Counterfeit training certificates a growing concern

What is the problem?

Enform training certificate fraud is a growing concern in the upstream oil and gas industry. Routine checks of training certificates at industry job sites have identified several versions of fraudulent temporary certificates:

  • Counterfeit temporary H2S Alive® certificates. These are often expired certificates that have had the date modified, a false instructor and class number, and a false certificate number (many of the counterfeit certificates have the same number), or they originally belonged to someone other than the bearer, but have the bearer's name fraudulently typed.
  • Some certificates have been distributed by companies not authorized to deliver Enform training. The certificate has the name of the company and the name of the Enform course. There is no Enform logo on these certificates, but there should be.

What is Enform doing about it?

In response to the above concerns, Enform has notified the RCMP and has asked them to fully investigate the fraud. Enform also wishes to remind the industry of unique security features of authentic Enform certificates:
  • Use of thermo-chromic Ink: This heat-reactive ink shifts from coloured to colourless when exposed to moderate temperatures. The colour reaction is prompt and reverts quickly when the heat source is removed.
  • Use of micro-print: This print is very fine – too fine to read with the naked eye. However, the lines "collapse" into one another when photocopied, which is readily apparent.

What can YOU do about it?
  • Ensure the training of your workers and contractors is real by accepting only original training certificates. This will help ensure their safety – and integrity!
  • Check certificates for signs of alteration or other tampering. Verify the validity of questionable Enform training certificates by calling the Enform Registrar at 403.516.8035 or the Enform Associate Registrar at 403.516.8086.
  • Report suspected misuse of Enform training certificates by calling Enform at the numbers below. All such reports will be treated confidentially and investigated.
